Department of Aeronautical Engineering (AE)

INTRODUCTION
The necessity of introduction of Aeronautical Engineering (AE) program at Bangladesh has long been felt. At present MIST offers Engineering Degrees in Civil Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical, Electronics and Communication Engineering and Mechanical Engineering programmes. All these degrees are also offered by other universities of the country but none is offering Aeronautical Engineering. This long felt necessity of our country has been materialized by MIST. The Aeronautical Engineering (AE) programme introduced by MIST commenced on 01 February 2009.
The Aeronautical Engineering (AE) program has 02 (two) major disciplines namely “Aerospace” and “Avionics”. The syllabus comprises a total of 160.0 credits and 190.0 contact hours for both the disciplines.
Aeronautical Engineering plays a vital role in all fields of modern human activities. It has established itself as one of the most important branches of engineering. The Aeronautical Engineering undergraduate programme provides an excellent technical background for persons who want to work in the field of fluid mechanics, heat transfer, applied mechanics and other disciplines. In addition to lectures and practical sessions in the classroom, the undergraduate programme also includes industrial/educational visits to different reputed industries/places  both home and abroad. The new generation of Aeronautical engineers is encouraged to undertake research and development activities in the above areas and this department is committed to the study and analysis of fundamental as well as applied problems. Problems of military and national importance have consequently received great emphasis in the activities of this department.
In addition to the above in the future there will be opportunities for postgraduate studies and research leading to higher degrees i.e. M. Sc. (Engg), M. Engg, and Ph.D. Financial assistances program is available for the poor and meritorious students.

Field of Study
Following are the fields of studies in AE department:
1. Aerospace Vehicle Design Engineering
2. Aerospace Engineering
3. Avionics Engineering
4. Radar Engineering
5. Space Engineering
6. Aerospace Propulsion Engineering
7. High Speed Aerodynamics

Student Intake: As one of the largest undergraduate programs, the enrollment in this department includes 65 undergraduate students in each year. At present this department is offering only undergraduate courses. It will offer postgraduate courses in near future. Currently the following courses are running.
 a. AE-2 with 70 Student
 b. AE-3 with 58 Students
 c. AE-4 with 65 Students
 d. AE-5 with 60 Students
